Our access to the avalanche of information that we now take for granted would be unheard of even ten years ago. It’s available with a few clicks, and often right in the palm of our hands. The only problem with this bonanza is that it’s a literal avalanche. Unfortunately, Google has yet to invent quality control!
Cue the Acorn Awards. These 10 sites are my tried and true favourites. They range from food to fashion to lifestyle, but what they share in common is an authentic soul. They’re well researched, well written, well photographed, and well tended. The more support these quality sites receive, the more they’ll thrive.
If you have suggestions of your own, please feel free to share them on my Facebook page. I’d love to hear your thoughts and share stories of awesome people creating platforms that benefit all of us. Believe me, there are plenty of them out there. Think of it as a book (website!) club.
Happy reading :)
The Acorn Awards
Oola! The best foodie website out there, and one of the best websites, period. Stylish and awesome in every way, this one scores high on my list.
Wanderlust. Many yoga sites veer into the flaky. This one breaks the mold; it combines all the best of yoga-inspired lifestyle, food, recipes, music, and festivals. Super stylin’.
The Curiosity Library. A fresh idea that’s growing fast, this site offers an online library for women on a wide range of topics (think travel & adventure, health & wellness, soul & spirit). It’s amazing no-one thought of it sooner.
Mother Nature Network. Well beyond an enviro website, this is cool, upbeat, and just plain fascinating.
Eat the Butter. An impassioned plea for a mother-to-mother revolution to change the way families eat. Incredibly well researched, the chart featuring six options for ‘vintage eating’ is the best how-to I’ve ever seen online.
Goop. Give credit where credit is due: Gwyneth does it again. I can’t help but love this site.
Good News. A beautiful antidote to the awful ‘news’ we hear every day. There are many, many people doing some pretty fantastic things each and every day. Read about them here.
Well + Good. I don’t even know how to begin to tell you how good this is. Just check it out.
The Sartorialist. Street fashion at its best. Pure eye candy in the best possible way.
Jamie Oliver. Hardly a lightweight, but so, so very well done. Plus he’s cute as a button!
